Recruitment and Resentment
I was elected vice-chair the other day. Pete (the chairman) needs someone to take on his workload and help him catch up since he broke his collar bone. Anyway, one of the main topics of discussion was recruting. I've been on to a couple of colleges and we have a few dates to come and present ourselves and recruit members. my bro scotty has a couple of rugby mates at the 6th form college that may want to join. Looks like a good prospect. But something i have picked up on recently is my temporary apointment has caused some resentment within the team. I was given the job by pete. It wasn't voted on. I understand thier disagreements but the AGM is in a month so if im That Bad then they can vote me out. Im doing a good job by helping pete and moving the club forward. I must be. I was the first to by pads on the team. I think they may be too relaxed about the team. But oh well. Its no problem. At least the club has a chance to recruit more members and maybe even some linemen, which we are desperatly missing. Im thinking of trying out for QB aswell now our other two are in america, (tony) and Lari (an ex lineman). We run the option a lot so i think i'll do better than lauri at that. Tony has a great arm but he doesn't know the playbook, so i think i stand a good chance.
Genesis
My name is merv. Don’t worry its not my real name. My parents wouldn't be that cruel (no offence any real merv's). It was a nickname gifted to me during high school for reasons that seem to escape even those who gave birth to it. And so hi, I am merv. But it is not me who is the subject of this blog. But one whom I love. My team. To be more precise my American football team, the Worcester Cardinals. Based in Worcester, UK the team has just been born. And so, as a loving parent nurtures their child, it is my, and my teammates job, to raise this team to become smart, strong and morally sound. And so this Blog will be charting their progress through the first years of its life. Unless i am kicked from university where this blog will lay here and die as so many others have before. lol (i hate using lol. It is more pointless than wheels on a tomato but it is an easy way to imply humor and so i resign myself to using it throughout the blog). The story so far: I joined Worcester university in September 2006 doing sports coaching HND. After signing up at the fresher fair for rugby and American football i soon dropped rugby as the team were a bunch of dick heads (bar a few; jams, Sam, will, Adam west and Kaman). The team had been running since last summer but had just become affiliated with the students union. We still had to play two matches (one home, one away) to enter the league BCAFL, and have a full season the following year. We met our coaches and began training. The defense looked better than the offence to begin but that is always the case as the offence masters their playbook. The main issue was getting the team in pads. So far only 7 of us have achieved this, what appears to be, miraculous event. Now it is the first weeks of semester two and we only have 7 padded and have played no matches. Our Quarter back, Tony, has fled to America, Pennsylvania, on exchange and 'forgot' to tell anyone. And our middle linebackers, Vinnie and Yohan are likewise, in America. So here we are. Let the story unfold as it may.
